Album review: Belaya Polosa

First impression

This is what I wrote while listening to the album for the first time, in the middle of the night when it came out (06.09.2024)

Ты Же Не Знаешь Кто Я / Ty zhe ne znaesh kto ja: YUMMYYYYYY!!!! agressive preaching voice and then that glitchy stuff in the outro love the evil laugh AAAUUURGHHHH!!!!

Колесом / Kolesom: Electronic. nice beat. deeper tone of song, love it.

Сон / Son: Yeah this is the best one overall. molchat doma and their unbeatable fucking basslines. i think i like it because it sounds the most like them. its the perfect next step, natural evolution.

Белая Полоса / Belaya polosa: WOAH hells yes!! groovy, in a depressing way. i would like to fuck the bass please

Бeзнадежный Вальс / Bezndezhniy Waltz: PIANO?? The sound of someone moving around before and after are amazing, i love such stuff. interesting new thing! i kinda want some sort of mini-album with instrumental piano songs from them now...

Черные Цветы / Chernye Cvety: Absolutely does not sound like them. but i do like it, the outro especially fucks. it's not a song i paticularly expected or wanted from molchat doma, but it's here i guess.

III: Soft and electronic. epic sounding. don't know what's up with the cryptic name, something to do with the corrupted outro part?

Не Вдвоем / Ne Vdvoem: Keyboard choir noises. Soft and fragile, with contrasting drums. Feels like cheeks red and irritated from salty tears in the wind. Also Yahor's new highest note!!??!? the vocal range on this man...(yes i am insane like that and keep track of artists highest and lowest sung notes. a habit left from my vocaloid phase)

Я Так Устал / Ja tak ustal: nice little beat, another kind of soft one.

Зимняя / Zimnjaja: sounds like johnny boy by kite! OHHH this is really good. love love love it.

THEMES: Even more electronic than before. More "layers", advanced soudscapes. Yahor's voice echoes and "disappears behind the music" even more than before. He sings more slowly, dragging out everything. I kinda prefer the shorter "up close" singing in songs like zvezdy...

It's either songs made for echoing out over a desolate rock beach, or beating through a dark sweaty club. sometimes both. The advanced soundscapes makes songs blend together a bit, not very distinctive. (don't know if they ever were though...)

Over all: the better ones are amazing, the worse ones i will probably not listen to so much. When they go full on hard electronic with it, or do their thing with the bass, it turns out amazing. anything else just doesn't scratch me right.....Who am i kidding i love all of these songs, some will just take a bit longer to stick.

Coming back now a month later, the only tracks I have listened to a significant amount are Ты Же Не Знаешь Кто Я and Сон. It seems I don't like this album particularly much sadly :(

If it came on at a party or hangout I would be insanely happy, I don't know that I would put it on by myself.
